Some like-minded youth assembled in a room of DM College of Arts and formed Sahitya Thoupang Lup(SATHOULUP) on the 25th of November, 2003. Several youth started meeting every month. Those youth were mainly the students studying in Colleges of Manipur. With the advent of Sahitya Academy Awardee Shri Saratchand Thiyam as an advisor the organisation made a remarkable progress. Many individuals interested in the objectives of this organisation continued to sign up. Likewise, under the banner of SATHOULUP, various activities started taking place ceaselessly. Members started meeting every month at the temporary office in the building of ‘The Poknapham’ which is located at Keishampat Thiyam Leirak, Imphal. The members tried to consolidate the strength of the organisation by contributing some monetary subscriptions every month.

With the progression of its various activities, ‘Sahitya Thoupang Lup’ was registered in the year 2011 under the Registrar of Co-operative societies, Government of Manipur. After getting registration number 847 of 2011, many highly commendable activities had also been organised.

  A. To work for the development of Manipuri Language and Literature and to uplift it to the National and International level.

• 

  B) To organise World Manipuri Meet and to organise literary/cultural/youth exchange programmes by inviting eminent personalities.

• 

  C) To give scholarship or fellowships to enthusiastic researchers working to promote Manipuri Culture and Literature.

• 

  D) To translate Literary/ other disciplines from Manipuri into English, Hindy and other Indian Langauages and vice versa with a motive to localise and internationalise various form of resources.

• 

  E) To publish books,journals magazines, and to riprint books of repute which are not easily available.

• 

  F) To encourage the promising writers and to celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries of eminent personalities for their contribution to the society and to disseminate it to the comming generations.

• 

  G) To organise study circles/poets or writers meet/seminars/symposium/youth leadership camp/various programmes on health and sports/science meet/programmes related to art and culture and fine arts/social awareness programmes/tour programmes.

• 

  H) To give awards and prizes to the outstanding personalities.

• 

  I)To bring communal harmany,peace and National Integrity through literature.

• 

  J) TO open Library in the area of the association for use of the member and non members in general and to furnish books,periodicals,newspapers and other publications.

• 

  K) To do any such activities from time to time as are incidental and conductive to the attaintment of the above abjects.

• 

  L) To raise fund by recheiving donation. subscription,etc. from member and public and financial assistence from the government and local bodies.
